ABOUT US

Founded as Michigamua in 1902, Order of Angell brings together up to 25 leaders from distinct organizations with the goal of making Michigan a better place.

By bringing together leaders from diverse corners of campus, we hope to promote interconnectedness at Michigan, develop leadership, and engage in short and long-term leadership projects. Learning about different groups, populations, and individuals allows us as leaders to make our work more effective, more honest, and more salient to specific segments and the entire campus community at large. A current initiative that we are working on is Leaders for Life. LFL works to advance exceptional student leadership across campus. Part of this is a two day conference founded on deep research aimed at offering current student leaders an opportunity to reflect on and develop their leadership.

Order of Angell is a merit-based organization and individuals invited to join demonstrate valued leadership qualities, as determined by their peers. With 100% turnover each year, each class is comprised of completely new membership that operates autonomously on initiatives we feel are most important for the current campus climate

We stand for diversity, inclusion and transparency - values that we strive for within our own roles on campus.

OUR MISSION

Throughout the years, different classes of Order of Angell members have devoted their time to initiatives and projects centered around the core missions of the organization:

  1. Connect Proven, Diverse Leaders – To connect up to 25 senior student leaders from the many diverse corners of campus who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, impeccable character, and a deep and enduring commitment to the University of Michigan

  2. Elevate Leadership – To advance leadership development through access, training, and inspiration from other exceptional leaders at the University of Michigan and its Alumni

  3. Create a Forum of Purpose – To create a dynamic, nonpartisan forum in which leaders of significant, yet disparate, activities can share profound connections through ongoing dialogue; and to translate this learning for constructive purposes that embrace the values of the University of Michigan

  4. Facilitate Campus Synergy – To facilitate organizational interaction between student groups and their leaders that may not have existed before; and to enable them to make positive change in the best interest of Michigan, without recognition, either collectively or through their respective organizations

  5. Reflect and Engage – To engage with the key stewards of Michigan in an active and ongoing reflection on the institution’s values, spirit, and aspirations; and to identify and champion ensuing goals for Michigan to be successful over time

  6. Strengthen Loyalty to Alma Mater – To foster an environment which enhances passion for the loyalty to Michigan, while inspiring a lifelong commitment to the success of the Leaders and Best
